Pelican Bay Donation Fundraiser Nets $2,700 for Underprivileged Youth

On December 17, the Reaching Out Convicts to Kids (ROCK) program at Pelican Bay State Prison (PBSP) collected inmate donations from a food sale fundraiser totaling more than $2700.

“The inmates participating in the ROCK program have shown a genuine concern for some less fortunate children in the community, said Chief Deputy Warden (A) Mark Cook. “As a whole, ROCK inmates look forward to the opportunity to help kids. This is one way that is possible.”

The inmates in the ROCK program elected to use the proceeds to select 82 gift tags from “Santa’s Workshop Giving Trees” for local children, ages 13 and 14. The ROCK staff sponsors, along with numerous volunteers, shopped for and wrapped the gifts at Santa’s Workshop. This is the fifth year the ROCK Program has participated with Santa’s Workshop to assist and provide gifts to local children.

PBSP inmates look forward to being a part of this fundraiser every year. The inmates enjoy knowing they are able to provide gifts to children who may not otherwise receive a gift, said Cook.
