CDCR mourns murder of Colorado correctional sergeant

The California Corrections and Rehabilitation Department staff joins in the mourning for a Colorado correctional sergeant who was murdered Monday. Another correctional sergeant was seriously injured in the attack at a Colorado prison.
Killed was Sgt. Mary Ricard. Injured was Sgt. Lori Gann.
Sgt. Ricard was killed as she supervised inmates preparing breakfast Monday for inmates at the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility. Sgt. Lori Gann was seriously injured in the same incident.
Sgt. Gann was transferred to Pueblo’s Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, where she was listed in critical condition, the Denver Post newspaper reported Thursday.
“All of us are at a loss for words to convey our sympathy to the family, friends, and co-workers of Sgt. Mary Ricard, who was murdered at the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility,” said Terri McDonald, CDCR Undersecretary for Operations.
