The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) staff joins in mourning a Georgia correctional officer who was murdered Thursday night at Telfair State Prison in Helena.
Killed was 46-year-old Officer Larry Stell, who had worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections since 2001.
Officer Stell was stabbed to death with an inmate-made knife by an inmate serving a life term.
The incident is under investigation.
“It’s a tragic day whenever a fellow member of law enforcement is killed in the line of duty,” said Terri McDonald, CDCR Undersecretary for Operations. “CDCR offers its deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and co-workers of Officer Larry Stell.”
