Calipatria State Prison delivers warm clothing, toys to about 80 children

By Lt. Jorge Santana, Administrative Assistant/PIO

Calipatria State Prison (CAL) Records Department staff collected socks, gloves and beanies for children who attend Grace Smith Elementary School in Niland.

Here is the wreath children made to thank CAL staff for donations of clothing and toys.

Niland has an average family annual income of $20,000 and a per capita income of $10,300.  As CAL staff outside of the Records Department learned about the endeavor, donations began to pour in.

CAL staff were able to provide each student at the school with two pair of socks, a pair of gloves, a beanie cap and two toys. CAL has conducted this event for eight years. This year, the children made a wreath out of newspaper to thank CAL staff for the gifts.
