Correctional Training Facility

As a December cold spell was taking grip of California, staff from the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad, California took to the streets of Salinas distributing blankets to the homeless.

Capt. Ed Borla and Correctional Officer Robert Longoria gave out approximately 100 blankets that were found in an old family visiting storage unit.

The blankets were used and no longer serviceable for family visiting nor were they the type of blanket authorized for use by the inmates in their cells.

Rather than disposing of the blankets, Officer Longoria requested the prison administration to donate the blankets to the homeless so they can better cope with the dropping temperatures.

Warden Marion Spearman was quick to grant permission and instructed the institution’s laundry to wash the blankets before circulation.

The homeless people received their blankets with much gratitude for the donation and were glad to have an additional barrier of warmth for the upcoming evening’s chill.
