Apolonio ‘AP’ Gonzales Jr.

Wasco State Prison-Reception Center (WSP) reports the passing of retired Correctional Capt. Apolonio “AP” Gonzales Jr. on Jan. 9 from an extended illness.

He began his career at the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) where he was a Correctional Sergeant from 1980 to 1997.

He promoted to Correctional Lieutenant at WSP in 1997.  He promoted to Correctional Captain at Avenal State Prison in 2005 and served there until his retirement in 2008.

A viewing will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan.16 at the Heavenly Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Rd., Salinas. Services will follow at 6 p.m. at the same location on Thursday.

There will be church services from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, Jan. 17 at at the Apostolic Praise Temple, 1104 Fontes Lane, Salinas, followed by the burial at the Garden of the Memories Memorial Park, 850 Abbot St. in Salinas. Burial will be in Section 6, Row 8.

Burial on Friday will be followed by a gathering from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the American Legion, 14 W. Laurel Dr., Salinas.
