The Correctional Training Center (CTF) and the Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) figured prominently in a law enforcement effort to help families in Monterey County last month.

The 4th Annual Cops Giving Tree event for less fortunate children saw hundreds of gifts and 90 bicycles given to local residents, who were identified as being in need and invited to this special event.

For the fourth year in a row, CTF and SVSP in partnership with the Soledad Police Department and the Soledad Unified School District provided a holiday meal and gifts for the children.

CTF donationSixty-seven families totaling around 450 people were served dinner and presented gifts by Santa Claus during the evening’s event.

Lt. Darren Chamberlain AA/PIO for SVSP said, “Due to the immense generosity of our staff at both prisons, the Cops Giving Tree is arguably the most successful and the largest in terms of quantity and quality of gifts provided to members of our community here in Monterey County. Seeing the looks on the faces of these kids and their parents as they receive a present and a new bicycle is heartfelt and priceless.”

Wardens Marion Spearman and Randy Grounds jointly stated: “We want to thank our staff for their generosity and support in giving back to the community as they do year in and year out, even during the most trying of economic times.”
