CIW’s Book Club welcomes author Byron Katie

By Lt. Richard Montes, AA/PIO

CIW BOOK CLUB PHOTOWhen Warden (A) Kimberly Hughes established a book club for the inmate population at the California Institution for Women, the first book chosen was “Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life,” by Byron Katie.

The book is a motivational self-evaluative method of choosing to turn negative thoughts into positive strengths.

Ms. Katie visited the institution on April 7 to speak to the more than 130 inmates and several staff members who had read the book club selection.

Warden Hughes’ goal is to find other authors who are willing to speak to the CIW Book Club members about their books.
