Vern Curry

The Division of Adult Institutions reported the passing of former Classification Staff Representative Vern Curry on Sept. 14.

He started with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on July 16, 1982, as a Correctional Officer at the California Rehabilitation Center. He then went on to the Public Utilities Commission working as a Transportation Analyst and an Associate Transportation Representative.

On Nov. 13, 1989, he returned as a Correctional Officer at the Richard G. McGee Training Facility and R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility. On Oct. 1, 1994, he promoted to a Correctional Counselor I at RJDCF.

On Oct. 1, 1999, he went to Centinela State Prison as a Correctional Counselor II Supervisor and transferred back to RJDCF in 2001. On Jan. 27, 2003, he promoted to Correctional Counselor III, where he remained until he retired on July 8, 2007.

He returned as a Retired Annuitant from May 15, 2009, until Dec. 31, 2009, and again from September 3, 2010, through June 30, 2012.

The funeral services have already been conducted. The family said donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

    My condolences to the Curry family. I had the pleasure to work with Vern and his wife at Centinela. Good people. RIP, Vern.

    My heart goes out to Vern Curry’s family. I had the pleasure to work with Vern at RJD as a Correctional Counselor I. He always had a beautiful smile and good sense of humor. You will be missed, Vern.

      I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Curry. He was such a good person. My heart goes out to Mrs. Curry and family. May God be with you and comfort you. Mr. Curry will be trully missed.
