and Substance Abuse Treatment Program

Wasco State Prison – Reception Center organizes an annual Thanksgiving food drive to benefit the community of Wasco.

The thinking of the staff at WSP-RC is “Sharing is Caring” when it comes to assisting families in need – especially during the holidays.

Throughout the year, WSP-RC is very involved with helping those in need within the community of Wasco and other nearby communities.

This year WSP-RC will be putting together complete Thanksgiving meals to feed over 60 families in the community.

In the process of this food drive the staff at WSP-RC had an opportunity to enter a Thanksgiving Basket Decorating Contest.

The contest is voted on by staff at WSP-RC.  To benefit the Relay-For-Life organization, WSP-RC staff purchased tickets to vote for the baskets.  This contest not only benefits families in the community but it also raised over $400 for Relay-For-Life.

The Substance Abuse Treatment (SAT) Program staff at WSP-RC joined together to enter the Thanksgiving basket decorating contest.

The SAT staff elected to design a “Tuff Turkey.”

The Tuff Turkey was stuffed with a complete Thanksgiving meal which included non-perishable goods and a gift card to a local supermarket for the purchase of a Turkey and Ham.

The SAT staff were honored to participate in this great event which will benefit the community.

Wasco’s new single-level  substance abuse treatment program promotes positive social behavior and helps inmates develop knowledge and skills necessary to avoid substance use relapse and successfully reintegrate back into the community.

The SAT staff looks forward to participating in future events, including events which encourage program participants’ involvement (when appropriate).
