California Rehabilitation Center (CRC) reported the passing of Correctional Sergeant Anthony Ponce on Dec. 28.

Sgt. Ponce started his career with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on Oct. 20, 1986. After graduating from the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, he was assigned to CRC on Dec. 1, 1986.

He promoted to Sergeant on Sept. 18, 1995, and later transferred to the California Institution for Women.

On Sept. 23, 1996, he transferred to the Division of Adult Parole Operations where he was assigned as a 4 C’s housing Sergeant. On July 7, 2002, he returned to CRC where he was assigned as the Outside Parole Sergeant.

Viewing is scheduled for 6-7 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 2, at Cobot & Sons, 27 Chestnut St., Pasadena.

Funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 3, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 1100 E. Alhambra Road, Alhambra.

Burial immediately follows at Resurrection Cemetery, 966 Potero Grande Drive, Rosemead.
