CDCR case manager helped youth land out-of-state job

By Mike Roots, Superintendent
Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp

A former offender who served his sentence at Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp is now working the oil fields in North Dakota.

Evan Wells coordinated with Pine Grove Case Manager Bob Conrad to secure his probation in another state, allowing him to move in with his father and get a job.

“The job is good and I get to get extremely dirty,” he said. “They are paying me really good. The company I work for is the biggest in the state right now and are willing to pay good money for those who love physical work.”

To help him land the job, Conrad arranged a video conference interview with the prospective employer. The interview took place at Pine Grove.

After the interview, Conrad followed up with a phone call to the Probation Officer to let him know of the interview and the possibility of Wells securing housing via the company if he got the job as an oil rigger.

It all worked out as planned, according to those involved.
