National Teacher Appreciation Week marked with lunch, awards

In May, National Teacher Appreciation Week is observed and this year Folsom State Prison marked the occasion with some awards and a celebratory lunch.

“Throughout the year (teachers’) successes are measured by the students’ achievements. These achievements are just a small part of their success. There are many accomplishments that may not be apparent to the teacher, but they are realized by the student’s families, and our communities,” FSP event organizers said in a statement. “Changes appear in the student’s self-confidence, demeanor and the ability to take on responsibility for themselves and others.”

This year, Folsom State Prison Education Administrators thanked and celebrated their educational staff by providing them with a luncheon. The organization also named two as Teachers of the Year.

Wendy Vinson, with the Minimum Facility, and Jerry Berch, of  Main Education, were recognized with the awards.
