The Female Offender Support Group was started in November 2014.

In November 2014, Parole Agent III Francine Mitchell, assigned to the La Central #1 Parole Unit, initiated a Female Offender Support Group.

The group takes place every third Wednesday of the month.

At these female support groups, Life Term parolees interact with general population parolees to assist in mentoring other females so that they avoid repeating the same mistakes that caused them to be incarcerated the first time.

These groups are focused on self-esteem, positive attitudes and resources for women.

At the meeting held on March 18, 2015, Female Offender Agents Nicole Ghanem and Boris Boresoff provided lunch (sandwiches, salads, chips, fruit, dessert and beverages) for the women who attended.

Female Lifer Agent April Pendleton provided gift bags for those who have attended and continue to participate.

Each month the amount of women attending the meeting has increased, according to those involved.

These groups help the women improve their communication and social skills to have a more positive outlook on life and meet their goals on parole, organizers said.
