Inmate groups donate over $4,300 to school band, basketball teams

Students in the community received a boost thanks to the fundraising activities of inmates in a local state prison.

Valley State Prison (VSP) Inmate Leisure Time Activity Groups (ILTAG) hold fundraisers to give much-needed support to local high school students.

The VSP Inmates who are members of the ILTAGs, Life & Beyond and Criminal Gang Members Anonymous, held fundraisers from which they decided to donate their profits to local Madera County students.

On May 16, Ms. Campos and Ms. Guerrero, Self-Help Sponsors from VSP, met with the students and staff of the Chowchilla High School Band to hand deliver a donation of $3,830.12.

On May 21, VSP Associate Warden Gloria Colmenero and the Community Resources Manager went to Madera High School to meet with Girls’ Basketball Varsity Head Coach Jason Smith, of Madera High School, and the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Head Coach Teresa Hernandez, of Madera South High School, Girls’ Basketball Teams to present each team with a donation of $540.08.
