Correctional Peace Officer Foundation event honors fallen correctional staff

By Lt. Gregory Crowe, AA/Public Information Officer
High Desert State Prison

The High Desert State Prison Honor Guard attended the Correctional Peace Officer Foundation Project 2000 in Jacksonville, Florida, along with 33 other honor guard teams from around the nation and Canada.

The event honors the correctional families of those men and women that have fallen in the line of duty during the past year, including memorializing and honoring those that had not yet been honored from the past. The team had the distinct honor of escorting one of our family members from High Desert State Prison.

The event is held in different states each year around the United States to ensure representatives from around the nation have an opportunity to be included in the annual memorial service. The event also supports and recognizes correctional staff with catastrophic needs, survivors of assaults, trauma or accidents and bravery above and beyond the call of duty.

California was well-represented with teams from four institutions, including the CDCR Statewide Transportation Unit Honor Guard.
