Pleasant Valley State Prison reported the passing of retired acting Chief Deputy Warden Paul T. “P.T.” Ward on July 1.

He had been employed by CDCR for 32 years and was one of the “founding fathers” of PVSP, according to PVSP Warden Scott Frauenheim.

He began his career in 1973 as a Correctional Office at Soledad and Susanville. Later he was a Correctional Sergeant at San Quentin followed by a post as Correctional Lieutenant at Deuel Vocational Institution.

In 1994, he activated PVSP as a Custody Captain. While at PVSP, he served as acting Chief Deputy Warden and acting Warden. He retired in December 2005.

He returned to state service as acting Chief Deputy Warden at California State Prison, Los Angeles County, as a retired annuitant.

Viewing will be 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, at Walton’s Funeral & Creamtions: Ross, Burke & Knobel, 2155 Kietzke Lane, Reno, Nev.

Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, at Mountain View Cemetery, 435 Stoker Ave., Reno, Nev.
