During a strategic gang sweep in the Fresno metro area, Avenal State Prison and Pleasant Valley State Prison employees helped suppress gang activity while engaging in positive community relations.
They joined other law enforcement agencies in a MAGEC (Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium) sweep on Aug. 29, speaking and interacting with the community to make them aware law enforcement agencies were committed in reducing the crime in the communities.
As a result of the sweep there were three misdemeanor arrests, eight probation searches, five field interviews, 15 community contacts, 18 felony arrests (13 of which were gang related) and three illegal firearms were seized.
Some of the positive interactions with the community included playing a friendly mini-soccer game with neighborhood children.
“The Fresno Police Department are doing an excellent job in the communities and show tremendous passion keeping the streets safe,” according to a press release issued by Avenal State Prison.
