With the success of last year’s charity ride, the cycling club at Salinas Valley State Prison is putting their feet back on the pedals, and their mountain bike tires back in the dirt, to raise funds for veterans.

The second SV Cyclopaths Veterans Day mountain bike ride is slated for 9 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Monterey County.

Employees from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, along with Department of State Hospitals, are joining forces with their friends and families to ride bicycles for charity. All skill levels are welcome, according to organizers.

Riders will experience the trails of Ford Ord, meeting at 8th and Gigling Road.

Prizes will be offered for those who attend. Monetary donations are welcome and will be donated to a local veterans’ organization.

There will be a barbecue after the ride, with details made available prior to the start of the event.

SVSP Capt. Matthew Atchley, a Navy Veteran and avid mountain biker, put together the event as a way to honor those who have served their nation in the armed forces and help ensure its democracy.

For more information or to join the team, contact Capt. Atchley at (831) 678-5545 or Correctional Training Facility Capt. Darren Chamberlain at (831) 678-5934.
