Valley State Prison (VSP) recently donated approximately $1,500 to Veterans’ Administration Central California Health Care Systems (VACCHCS) in Fresno.  The donation will be put toward the Adaptive Sports and Recreation Therapy programs.

Approximately $900 of the donation was raised by VSP staff’s purchase of red shirts with a yellow ribbon and “Support Our Troops Red Shirt Fridays” printed on the front and “We Support Our Troops Both Past and Present” printed on the back.  Staff was authorized to wear the shirts on Fridays to show support for veterans.

The Veterans Support Group (VSG), a voluntary inmate veterans group, also held a fundraiser and donated $600.

VACCHCS leadership received the donations in a ceremony outside the veterans’ hospital and then gave VSP staff a tour of the facility.  The tour included POW/MIA and fallen soldiers memorials as well as the hospital’s rehabilitation facility.
