The Lions Clubs of California, sponsored by Lions International, held its 79th annual Student Speakers Contest in local communities, and Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp (PGYCC) was one of the Amador County high schools to be invited.

Four PGYCC students prepared and delivered speeches to The Upcountry 88 Lions Club. This year’s theme was Liberty and Justice for All. Nationwide, $103, 500 will be paid out to the winning students.

The Upcountry 88 Lion’s Club Chairperson Steven Zanetta gave each PGYCC student a $25 educational scholarship and a certificate of appreciation for participating.

PGYCC was also given a certificate of appreciation which read, “In recognition of the cooperation and effort you have devoted to the 79th annual student speaker program and for the dedication to helping the youth of California reach their potential as accomplished speakers, we hereby commend teachers Claudette Perrin and Judy Levinson, and the Pine Grove Camp. We do believe that America’s future is dependent upon each succeeding generation’s leadership, vision, and creativity. You have demonstrated your willingness to further those values.”
