Valuing this year’s theme “Serving Victims, Building Trust, Restoring Hope,” Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) staff observed National Crime Victims Week by raising $4,500 for the Monterey County District Attorney’s Victim and Witness Assistance Program.

SVSP Administrative Services Personnel organized a bake sale, generating $1,500. Inmates belonging to Criminal and Gang Members Anonymous on Facility D also held a picture sale, generating $3,000. The inmates said their goal was to give back to those who have been touched by violence.

Warden W. L. Muniz presented the proceeds to Monterey County DA Victim Services Unit Manager Pamela J. Patterson at the 16th Annual Victim and Survivors Dedication Ceremony on April 8 in the Board of Supervisors Chambers of the Salinas Courthouse. District Attorney Dean Flippo was also in attendance.

The Ceremony culminated with survivors of crime releasing doves in honor of victims.
