Valentina Osborne, Personnel Supervisor I, has been recognized as the Human Resources (HR) Excellence Award winner for May 2016.

Osborne has held her current position since October 2015 and is a trainer for new personnel specialists.

“Although she has only been a supervisor for a short period of time, she has demonstrated strong administrative ability in training staff, documenting performance and mentoring staff to become exceptional personnel specialists,” according to HR. “Training new personnel specialists is a critical function to ensure the accurate processing of payroll and leave accounting for over 6,000 headquarters employees. Valentina’s willingness to assist others, technical ability, training ability and customer-service oriented philosophy are just a few reasons for which she is a change agent to help create a better experience for the Office of Personnel Services’ customers.”

According to HR, she goes above and beyond the scope of her normal duties.

“She has assisted struggling staff and helped improve their performance with her training and guidance. Her vision and change agent philosophy are well beyond the normal scope of duties for her classification,” her nomination form notes. “She willingly takes on assignments others will not. Her outstanding organizational and administrative abilities will help ensure her staff gain the ability to successfully perform as personnel specialists. … As a personnel supervisor I, she is on the front lines of helping to ensure employees receive an accurate pay warrant and correct leave balances by training and mentoring staff.”
