Employees of the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) recently competed in the Hollister 5K Foot Pursuit, a run/walk benefiting two law enforcement support programs.

The Hollister Police Department Explorers program and Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS), a national and local organization whose goals are to assist the families of fallen officers, were the beneficiaries of the May 14 fundraiser. The event was attended by many law enforcement agencies, as well as civilian teams and individual runners from the surrounding communities.

Along with Warden (A) Shawn Hatton, CTF assembled three five-member teams. At the end of the event, awards were presented to the top three teams in each of the following categories; Law Enforcement team, Civilian team and Explorer team.

With 15 Law Enforcement teams particpating, in the end, CTF-Soledad (Team 1) took the victory, followed by Monterey County Probation (second) and San Benito County Probation (third). Members of the winning team were retired CTF Associate Warden Jeff Soares, CTF Captain Patrick Santiago, CTF Capt. Darren Chamberlain, CTF CCI Shelly Baumgardner and California Men’s Colony Correctional Officer Steve Baumgardener.
