On June 11, while at the 2016 Special Olympics Summer Games at California State University, Long Beach, Kern Valley State Prison (KVSP) staff presented a check for $20,226 to the Special Olympics of Kern County.

The money was raised from an inmate food sale fundraiser, a raffle with CDCR staff and an inmate family member’s donation. The food sale raised a total of $19,201 and supported Kern County business by utilizing a local pizzeria.

The CDCR staff raffle raised about $1,000 and the mother of one of KVSP’s inmates donated $25 after her son told her about meeting with Special Olympics Global Messenger Rudy Briseno in May 2016.
