Sgt. First Class P. Nickerson, a Correctional Counselor I at SVSP, nominated his supervisor, CCII Berlingeri, for the award.

Counselor Nickerson credits the support of his supervisors and SVSP as one of the reasons for his over 20 years in the U.S. military.

He said the cooperation and backing  he receives from his fellow staff puts him at ease when he has to transition into a soldier and lets him focus on the mission.

The Patriot Award  recognizes supervisors and bosses nominated by a Guardsman or Reservist employee for support provided directly to the nominator.

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment.

ESGR is supported by a network of more than 4,500 volunteers in 54 committees located across all 50 states.
