CDCR Secretary Scott Kernan nominated Pattillo for the award which recognizes a Correctional Industries Director who has made sustained, outstanding contributions to the correctional industries field and/or the NCIA during the course of his/her career.

“Chuck Pattillo succeeds because of the passion and experience he brings to the job,” said Kernan. “He runs a nationally renowned operation rehabilitating prison inmates, and at no cost to taxpayers. Chuck finds ways to accomplish goals even in the toughest of times.”

The Rodli Award was first given in 1978 and Pattillo is the first director from California to receive it.

At 10 years, Pattillo is the longest serving director in CALPIA history.

“Chuck has not only been a leader in the Correctional Industry  field through his work at CALPIA, but he is also eager to share his expertise and resources to help other Correctional Industries across the country launch new programs and/or problem-solve challenges,” said NCIA Executive Director Gina Honeycutt.  “Chuck has volunteered countless hours of his own time to support NCIA in its mission to support the professional development of our members and we are thrilled to recognize him with this highest honor.”

CALPIA operates career-training rehabilitation programs in California’s correctional facilities. CALPIA’s correctional industries programs have recorded the lowest overall recidivism rate of any offender training program administered in California’s prisons, and its Career Technical Education program has the lowest overall recidivism rate of any offender rehabilitation program in the United States.
