Pelican Bay prison honor staff in regional ceremony

Pelican Bay State Prison recognized their staff at a special ceremony on March 21.

The Law Enforcement Administrators of Del Norte (LEADN) took time to recognize their staff during the 23rd annual award ceremony on March 21.

In a room full of local heroes who serve Del Norte County, several law enforcement agencies gathered to salute their staff. The service opened with a flag presentation by the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Explorers then administrators from their respective agencies honored their staff and presented awards.

Pelican Bay State Prison recognized the following staff:

Officer of the Year: Correctional Officer Robert Acosta
Supervisor of the Year: Correctional Lieutenant David Strain

Community Service Award: Fire Chief Ryan Wakefield
Community Service Award: Fire Captain Christopher Butz
Community Service Award: Fire Captain Michael Knight
Community Service Award: Fire Captain Raymond Rook
Community Service Award: Fire Captain James Weiland

Dedicated Service Award: Parole Services Associate Karla Bauer (not pictured)
Dedicated Service Award : Sylvia Zarate

Other agencies attending were the California Highway Patrol, Redwood National Parks, Del Norte County District Attorney, Del Norte County Probation, Del Norte County Sheriff and the Crescent City Police Department.

    Strong work as always by the CDCR Fire station at Pelican Bay, and all other recipients. Congratulations on your recognition!
