On June 22, Wasco State Prison-Reception Center (WSP-RC) Warden John Sutton, Chief Deputy Warden Heather Shirley, and several members of the management team participated in a rewarding community charity event.

On this day, the WSP-RC team came together at the Kern County Honor Flight (KCHF) to serve breakfast to those who proudly served our country, our military veterans.

Warden Sutton and his staff visited with the veterans, listening to their stories.

After breakfast, the warden thanked each veteran for their service to this great country and presented the KCHF Organization with a check in the amount of $6,536.  These funds were raised this year by WSP-RC  staff who participated in several fundraisers and organized an inmate food sale.

The donation will pay for four military veterans to travel to Washington, D.C.  The veterans expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the Warden and his staff.

What a beautiful story. I don’t think enough can be done for our veterans. It would be awesome for other institutions to join forces and recreate this amazing deed. Thank you for sharing 🙂
