Forging through the intense heat during Boston’s prestigious race, Correctional Lieutenant Art Gonzales of the Office of Policy Standardization completed the 2012 Boston Marathon in 4 hours and 38 minutes. This year’s event was one of the hottest in history and many of the runners succumbed to the 89-degree heat and could not complete the race.
“I did well up to 18 miles and then the heat was just too much to handle,” Gonzales said. But he persevered, determined to finished the 26.2-mile race.
“The people were great all long the course, and the race was just amazing. The goal was to finish and get the medal, which I did.”
“Next stop New York City in November,” he said.
