Brooke Crain, 19, daughter of Correctional Officer Todd Crain, finished 8th overall in the Women’s BMX Cycling at the 2012 Olympics in London, the Associated Press reported.
Todd works at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison, Corcoran.
Brooke, the only rider from the United States to make the final round, came in 2.58 seconds behind the gold medal winner Mariana Pajon of Colombia. Sarah Walker of New Zealand claimed silver, and Laura Smulders of the Netherlands took bronze.
On Wednesday, Brooke crashed on the last lap of the seeding round after she clipped her rear wheel on a ramp and lost control over the front of her handle bars. She had the wind knocked out of her and suffered a bruised thigh but was able to recover for Friday’s race
Brooke had moved up to the U.S. Olympic Team after teammate Arielle Martin suffered serious injuries in a bike crash last week during a training session.
