Andre Tate, senior special agent, died unexpectedly Nov. 13.

Mr. Tate started with CDCR in 1997 as a senior special agent at the Office of Internal Affairs, Southern Office.

Previously, he worked as an agent for the California Department of Justice from 1988 to 1997 and as a California Highway Patrol officer from 1982 to 1988, working more than 30 years as a peace officer for the state of California.  Mr. Tate also served four years in the U.S. Air Force.

He distinguished himself by his loyalty, dedication, and dependability. He was awarded the Medal of Valor from the Department of Justice for his actions during an armed conflict.


“Andre always had a smile and a positive attitude about him,” said David Grant, OIA deputy director. “He was a great role model for others and will be missed by all who knew him.”
