This month High Desert State Prison (HDSP) Chief Deputy Warden Fred Foulk made a $1,000 donation on behalf of HDSP to the Susanville Fire Department (SFD) for the renovation of a Hazardous Material Response Vehicle.

HDSP Chief Deputy Warden Fred Foulk, center, hands a $1,000 check to a member of the Susanville Fire Department.

The Hazardous Material Response Vehicle will be utilized county wide to respond to hazardous material spills.  The vehicle will be a major step towards ensuring the safety of Lassen County residents in the event of a hazardous material spill.

On hand to receive the donation was Dave Junette of the Lassen County Office of Emergency Services and Capt. Bradley Medvin of the Susanville Fire Department.

The money was a result of an Inmate Charitable Group Fund Drive. HDSP inmates were allowed to purchase food from local businesses.

Proceeds are donated back to non-profit organizations. This program has been a great opportunity to give back to the local community, the food sale initially supports a local business and the donations assist non- profit and charity organizations.
