Each year, CDCR recognizes employees who have performed acts of bravery, either while on the job or off. These special men and woman – nominated by their supervisors or colleagues – are honored at the annual Medal of Valor ceremony.

The nomination period for a person to be honored for a heroic act of bravery performed in the 2012 calendar year runs through Jan. 31, 2013.

Other honors presented at the Medal of Valor ceremony include awards to employees for exemplary work for the department – either for work done over a period of months or years or for involvement in a specific assignment of unusual benefit to the department. Such nominations, also made by supervisors or colleagues, are due by Jan. 31, 2013.

The Employee Recognition Nomination Form, for either an act of bravery or exemplary work, is available only on the Intranet. Additional information about the Medal of Valor ceremony can be found at

To nominate someone, complete the form and e-mail it to William Enfield, (with “MOV Nomination” in the subject line) OR via standard mail to William Enfield, Office of Communication, Room 113S, 1515 S Street, Sacramento, CA 95811. “ATTN: MOV Nomination”

Also named at the Medal of Valor ceremony are the Correctional Officer of the Year and the Correctional Supervisor of the Year.
