After 16 years on the run, a CDCR fugitive is back in prison thanks to CDCR’s Special Service Unit.
An SSU agent and Fontana Police Department officers recently arrested 42-year-old Jose G. Montesdeoca, who escaped from Mountain Home Conservation Camp in 1996.
Montesdeoca was sent to state prison in March 1996 with a four-year sentence for possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of a firearm by an ex-felon.
He was assigned to the conservation camp in November 1996 and escaped on Dec. 14, 1996. Montesdeoca was in the top 25 of SSU’s list of wanted fugitives.
After receiving a tip, an agent with the Special Services Unit and officers from the Fontana Police Department arrested Montesdeoca at a residence in Colton on Jan. 18 without incident.
He was then transported to California Institution for Men in Chino.
