Each year CDCR honors employees who have performed brave or heroic act and those who have performed exemplary work, whether on a specific assignment or over the course of years.
The honors range from the Distinguished Service Medal to the Medal of Valor. The stories are as varied as overseeing a decade-long anti-graffiti campaign or diving into swiftly moving canal waters to pull a mother and her three children from a rapidly sinking car.
The selection of each of those honored begins with a nomination. Nominations for acts of valor can be for actions while the employee was on duty or off, at his or her place of work or in the community.
In recent years, nominations have come from superiors, from co-workers, from the wife of a CDCR employee whose life was save, even from the daughter of a woman pulled from the waves along a Mexican beach.
The nomination period runs from January 1 through January 31.
CDCR employees are encouraged to recall the heroic deeds or the exemplary work of their co-workers in the calendar year 2013, and to fill out a nomination form for each of those involved.
Email nominations to email@example.com or mail to William Enfield, Chief of Internal Communications, Office of Public and Employee Communications, Room 113 South, 1515 S Street, Sacramento, CA 95811.
