Mule Creek State Prison staff held their 7th annual Toy Drive last month. Employees donated more than 750 toys, the largest total in the drive’s history.
During the year, retired and current staff members hold bake sales, barbeques and other fundraisers to raise money for the toy drive.
“One of our retired Correctional Officers owns a catering business and he donates his time and resources each year for the purpose of raising money for our toy drive,” said Warden (A) Joe Lizarraga. “He along with other retired Correctional Officers hold a staff barbeque luncheon from which proceeds go toward the purchase of new toys. That function kicks off our season for collecting donations and continues until the toys are handed over to the Amador County Sheriff’s Department at the end of the Christmas parade.”
The Amador County Sheriff’s Department is in charge of distributing the toys to families in need throughout Amador County.
“I am so proud and appreciative of our staff here at MCSP and how they continue to support our local community,” Warden Lizarraga said.
