California State Prison, Corcoran, donated $1,000 to the MEChA Club and the Student Voice Club of Corcoran High School to help fund their university study trip.
Antoneya Banks-Graves, Community Resource Manager (A), met students at the school on March 10.
The MEChA Club and Student Voice Club are planning a university study trip to UCLA. Along with the visit to UCLA, the club members, who earned the trip through their participation in community-service projects and fund-raisers, will also visit Six Flags-Magic Mountain.
Members of the Student Voice and the MEChA Club participate in many community service projects, including Adopt a Highway, Adopt a Park, Angel Tree Christmas Project, CHS MEChA Art Exhibit, the Mother’s Day Festival, Literacy Night, and the Healthy Soles Shoe Giveaway Project.
The majority of the clubs’ members come from migrant and farm worker family backgrounds with very limited incomes. Their parents are very supportive and encourage their children to work hard in school, get involved, and pursue a college education.
