On their own time, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation employees raised nearly $80,000 to benefit the Special Olympics of Northern California and the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
Organizers sent a letter to CDCR, thanking them for their efforts.
“Thank you for helping to raise awareness and funds for over 16,000 Special Olympics athletes in Northern California,” the letter states. “At this time, the CDCR total raised so far for Special Olympics is $78,262.39.”
Participating facilities and departments included California Correctional Center; California Health Care Facility; California Medical Facility; California State Prison, Corcoran; California State Prison, Solano; California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison, Corcoran; Central California Women’s Facility; Correctional Training Center; Correctional Training Facility; Deuel Vocational Institution; Division of Adult Parole; High Desert State Prison; Mule Creek State Prison; Sierra Conservation Center; Valley State Prison for Men and Wasco State Prison.
