Kern Valley State Prison

Kern County Special Olympics athletes received a helping hand from badge-wearing admirers.

The staff at Kern Valley State Prison (KVSP) participated in a series of events to help support Special Olympics.

They participated in the opening ceremony along with the awards ceremony as a part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

On October 4, 2014 at the AMF Southwest Lanes in Bakersfield, athletes competed in one of the fastest growing Fall/Winter individual sport, Bowling.

The competition started with the Special Olympics Torch arriving with two KVSP employees and three Special Olympics Kern County Athletes. The athletes competed in their gender, age and ability level.

The youngest athlete was 8 years old while the oldest was 75.

On hand to award the Athletes with their Gold, Silver, Bronze, fourth-place ribbons were Chief Deputy Warden Christian Pfeiffer, Lt. Michael R. Phillips and Correctional Officer J. Bermudez.
