California State Prison, Solano, is giving back to the community. The institution donated 506 confiscated cell phones in November 2014 and January 2015.

On Nov. 5, 2014, the institution donated 348 confiscated cell phones with batteries. On Jan. 6, 2015, they donated 158 confiscated cell phones and numerous assorted cell phone chargers and batteries.

According to the charitable organization’s website, the 911 Cell Phone Bank “was created (in 2004) to provide an ongoing and readily available source of emergency cell phones and funds to meet the unexpected and urgent needs of participating law enforcement and affiliated victims services agencies. Since then, the 911 Cell Phone Bank has generated hundreds of thousands of dollars and provided thousands of emergency cell phones for victims services organizations nationwide.”

Many of the recipients of the cell phones are victims of abuse, senior citizens or emergency services personnel, according to the organization.
