KVSP staff donate supplies to senior citizens
By Lt. Marshall Denning, AA/Public Information Officer
Kern Valley State Prison
The staff from Kern Valley State Prison recently delivered much-needed and much-appreciated supplies to 141 senior citizens in Delano.
The Delano Skilled Nursing Facility found themselves inundated with California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation staff who were at the ready with gift bags brimming with personal supplies.
The bags contained a pair of socks, hand lotion, body wash, shampoo, baby powder and wipes. Funds for the distribution were made possible through inmate fundraisers.
Approximately 20 staff members attended and helped pass out the gift bags. This is the first time KVSP has donated to the skilled nursing facility.
Warden Martin Biter was very pleased.
He referred to the senior citizens as the “forgotten population.”
Staff said they hope they can continue this effort as a new tradition.
