Five male youth recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation, by the Rev. William Lowe, during a ceremony at Ventura Youth Correctional Facility.
This annual event comes with much study and preparation. For a year prior, the youth must attend a weekly religion class and participate regularly at Sunday church services.
They choose a spiritual mentor to sponsor them and a Saint to emulate.
“This Sacrament graces them with the power of the Holy Spirit so that they might live their faith boldly and with confidence,” organizers said.
Many volunteers came to support the youth and a reception was held afterwards.
One of the youth said, “It was a big step forward from the relationship I use to have with God. I was grateful my family was able to attend and experience it with me.”
Confirmation is another way religious programs provide opportunities for personal growth and maturity within the overall treatment plan for the youth, if offenders choose to participate.
