Avenal State Prison
The Avenal State Prison Fire Department recently took part in a low-angle rescue training exercise with the Kings County Fire Department.
The training was held in the foothills, just outside the city of Avenal. The group trained in a mock rescue, taking place on steep declining terrain.
The participants learned to use rescue equipment like the stokes basket, rescue rope and webbing as well as how to set up a mechanical advantage rescue system using rescue rope and pulleys. Other topics covered in the training were anchor points communication methods and the use of proper protective equipment.
The cross training is advantageous for both Avenal State Prison and The Kings County Fire Department because of their mutual aid agreement.
