The nominating period is open for Medal of Valor honors through Jan. 31 for employees who have performed brave or heroic acts and those who have performed exemplary work, whether on a specific assignment or over the course of years.
The selection of each of those honored begins with a nomination. Nominations for acts of valor can be for actions while the employee was on duty or off, at his or her place of work or in the community.
More than 90 CDCR employees were honored at the 2015 Medal of Valor Ceremony in September.
In recent years, nominations have come from superiors, from co-workers, from the wife of a CDCR employee whose life was saved, even from the daughter of a woman pulled from the waves along a Mexican beach.
CDCR employees are encouraged to recall the heroic deeds or the exemplary work of their co-workers in the calendar year from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2015 and to fill out a nomination form for each of those involved.
Email nominations to firstname.lastname@example.org or mail to William Enfield, Chief of Internal Communications, Office of Public and Employee Communications, Room 113 South, 1515 S Street, Sacramento, CA 95811.
