CDCR will begin accepting applications for correctional officer positions on Monday, May 2.
The pre-employment process continued for those who previously applied.
New applications for correctional officers were temporarily suspended while the Office of Peace Officer Selection (OPOS) worked to catch up on a backlog of applicants.
Beginning in March, OPOS implemented Computerized Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) in the selection process for all applicants. CVSA digitally records and analyzes micro-tremors in the human voice to detect deception and is considered a “best practice” in peace officer hiring.
During the application suspension, OPOS continued testing at a reduced rate for applicants who applied prior to the suspension. Testing resumed at full capacity in April. Cadet hiring also continued as CDCR’s Office of Training and Professional Development has started an academy every four weeks during the application suspension.
