Staff from the California Correctional Center (CCC) and High Desert State Prison (HDSP) recently participated in the Fallen Officers’ Memorial Service held annually at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Herlong.

During the May 17 ceremony, fallen officers from CDCR, Board of Prisons and Nevada State Corrections were honored for their ultimate sacrifice.

CCC Warden Suzanne M. Peery and HDSP Warden Marion Spearman shared the honor of reading the names of the 37 fallen officers who gave their lives for the Department. After the reading of each name, the tolling of the bell and the hanging of a chit was done by the CCC/HDSP Honor Guard in honor of their memory.

The ceremony also recognized the loss of six officers from Nevada State Corrections and 26 from the Board of Prisons.

The wardens thanked Warden Ponce and staff at FCI Herlong for allowing CCC/HDSP to participate in this moving ceremony. Also deserving recognition are the following agencies: Sierra Army Depot Emergency Services; Susanville Police Department; Lassen County Sheriff’s Department; Washoe County Sherriff’s Department and Reno Police Department for their participation in the in the event.

FCI Herlong is a medium security federal institution which currently houses 1,274 male offenders. FCI is located in Lassen County approximately 60 miles northwest of Reno, Nevada, and 37 miles southeast of Susanville.
