A cell search at Kern Valley State Prison recently turned up numerous cellular phones and chargers. A later search of the dining area turned up another stash of phones hidden in a box of supplies.
Institutional Gang Investigations (IGI) Unit Staff recently conducted a cell search at Kern Valley State Prison. During the search, IGI Officer Cope discovered 15 cellular smart phones, several cellular charging devices, and one Allen wrench. IGI staff collected and processed the evidence.
During a subsequent search of Facility A Dining Hall by Central Region K-9 Unit Sgt. Alfaro, Officer Jeske, Officer Chamberlin and Facility A staff, K-9 Jett alerted to a sealed box of paper towels. As staff opened the box, they discovered an additional 25 smart phones with charging devices and approximately 104.5 grams of a white powder substance which tested presumptive positive for heroin.
Officer Chamberlin collected the evidence and processed it into the ISU evidence room.
The inmates who share the cell are receiving a rules violation report.
