Hundreds showed their support for injured Fresno County Correctional Officers Juanita Davila and Toamalama Scanlan on Sept. 15 at a fundraiser barbecue held at the Fresno County North Annex Jail parking lot.
The barbecue was organized by the Fresno Sheriff’s Correctional Sergeants Association (FSCSA) with all proceeds going to the injured officers’ families. Valley State Prison (VSP) showed their support by donating $2,528 from the staff’s fundraising efforts. The donation including $300 from the local Chicano Correctional Workers Association (CCWA), $500 from the CCWA State Board and $150 from the local California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA).
Officers Davila and Scanlan were critically injured during an active shooter situation at the Fresno County Jail in downtown Fresno on Sept. 13. The FSCSA’s fundraising effort, which in addition to the barbecue and cash donations, included a lemonade truck, kettle corn, and desserts, raised $37,567.
