CNE Philip Mallory completed his third century bike ride to raise funds for charity.

Region I Chief Nurse Executive Philip Mallory completed his third charity century bike ride on Sept. 9. In the past 18 months, he and his statewide coworkers have raised $15,770 dollars for three charities including Best Buddies, St Judes and Noah’s Light. Century rides are 100-mile long bike rides usually completed in 12 hours.

“I am honored by the ongoing support of my friends, peers and colleagues. There were some unique challenges afforded during this season’s training,” he said. “My tandem trainer was stolen from the Elk Grove Campus in late August. This sharpened my laser focus and instilled more fervency into completing the task.”

He replaced his tandem but in the interim, he trained by running stairs at the hospital.

“The Best Buddies event was an amazing journey and I am already focused on fundraising and preparing for 2018,” he said. “The human spirit and the will to achieve is an awesome force. Through all the unique challenges over the past 18 months, it has been the ongoing support of my CDCR family that has engendered the journey’s success. I am truly blessed to have such an amazing work family that shares their talents and giving to children and families afflicted by catastrophic disease.”
